| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com The novelty was stripmined from ethnobeat pop long ago, and this skin-deep confection is surprising only in its lack of edge and invention. On the plus side, the melodies are textured and lush, the beats entrancing, and a parade of gifted singers--Kristy Thirsk, Jacqui Hunt, and Sarah McLachlan included--bill and coo impressively. Lead single "Euphoria (Firefly)" has spark and spirit, while "Enchanted" and "Duende" are strong vehicles for Thirsk and Camille Henderson respectively. --Jeff Bateman
Album Description Recorded for the recent reissue of the best known Delerium album, Karma, this new mix of their 2000 hit single collaboration with Sarah McLachlan has already been no 1 in the German Dance Charts and once again looks set to take Ibiza by storm this summer. Promoted to UK clubs in late July and August, it will be given a 12" release in its own right in September. The older mixes of Silence sold 13K on download in 2007, and over 11K already in 2008. The track has been selling 500+ downloads per week consistently since April. Delerium albums for Nettwerk include Semantic Spaces (1995), their breakthrough album Karma (1997), Poem (2001), Chimera (2003) and Nuages Du Monde (2006). The band have sold over a million albums in North America alone, but are also known for a string of successful singles, including the worldwide dance smash Silence (featuring the vocal talents of Canadian superstar Sarah McLachlan), which has sold close to 400,000 copies in the UK alone. Other hits have included After All, Innocente (Falling In Love), Underwater and Heaven's Earth.

13 years later...I'm now a bit conflicted. April 21, 2010 M. Hargreaves (Salt Lake City, UT USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
So okay, I need to start this off by saying that "Karma", upon its first release became an instant favorite of mine. I found this CD completely by accident; the cover caught my eye at a CD store. After listening to the previews of 4 of the songs and hearing Sarah McLachlan on "Silence" I immediately bought the CD. At the time, the music was so transcendent. I've been a fan of Enigma since "MCMXC aD" was first released in 1990, and while Delerium's album "Semantic Spaces" is very similar to "MCMXC", "Karma" is, to me, in a different realm altogether. "Karma" is far 'meatier' than "Semantic Spaces" was.
Fast forward 13 years. "Silence" (in its original version) still remains haunting and eerily beautiful, even though it's been remixed to the point of ridiculousness. I am unabashedly a fan of McLachlan and have been for countless years, even before "Silence". Part of what makes that song so amazing are the lyrics, penned by McLachlan. Having said that, the lyrics on the rest of the album come off as cheesy and derivative. Case in point, the lyrics on "Enchanted":
"Prowling in the night
Hiding 'neath my fright
Manipulate my sight
Thief"
It sounds like someone pulled up a rhyming dictionary and an emo kid's diary and came up with what they thought was so "deep and dark".
Also, and I'll probably be flamed by every fan of Delerium out there, Kristy Thirsk's voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Her ear-splitting "soprano" voice is completely out of place, as are most of the other vocalists, McLachlan excepted. The genuine darkness of the music begs for really distinct and full...someone akin to Lisa Gerrard, whose vocals were sampled on the track "Forgotten Worlds". The majority of the vocalists used on this album sound like they belong singing backup for Britney Spears. Their voices are generic, unremarkable and forgettable. I hope, in the future, Bill & Rhys continue to find new vocalists for their music whose voices are as distinct, haunting, and etherial as Zoe Johnston's, who did the vocals for the Delerium track "Love" from the "Chimera" album.
Now, despite my complaints about this CD, it's still really great. True, 13 years after its initial release, it sounds pretty dated; the drum loops and bass lines in particular, but there are still some really great moments. "Silence" is still a classic. I have to say I wish Rhys and Bill had kept more to the darker theme of "Karma" with all their subsequent Delerium releases. Typically, the tracks that Rhys Fulber has been involved in are the standouts; Bill Leeb on his own lacks something. If you haven't heard "Dust in Gravity", Delerium's new single, consider yourself warned: it is quite possibly one of the worst songs I have ever heard. Supposedly Delerium is releasing a new album this year and I hope to God "Dust in Gravity" is not indicative of the album's sound. Top-40-wannabe crap doesn't suit the talents of Bill & Rhys.
But I digress. If you've never heard Delerium, "Karma" is a great place to start. Despite its flaws, it still remains, as a whole, really great mood music. But please for the love of all things holy, Bill & Rhys, PLEASE QUIT USING KRISTY THIRSK ON VOCALS FOR YOUR SONGS!!!!!!!!
If you like this album, and the genre of music it is part of, some recommendations for you: "The Dawnseeker" and "Labyrinthine Heart" by Sleepthief; Rhys Fulber's side project Conjure One's self-titled album is PHENOMENAL, but the 2nd one, "Extraordinary Ways" leaves something to be desired. Also, if you like the dark, Middle-Eastern electronic vibe, check out "Elysium for the Brave" by Azam Ali. It's superb.
A Feast for the Ears April 9, 2009 Deborah Warner (Northern Ohio,USA) More layed back than Chimera, less lyrics (but that's O.K.) LOVE Sarah McLachlan, and can't get enough of "Window to Your Soul"
PERFECT ALBUM!!! February 4, 2009 B. Callihan (joplin, MO) i cant think of any album that ive ever liked every song, but this is the one. from beginning to end its amazing, beautiful, the best new age music ever. i did remake the 1st song 'enchanted' to get rid of the kids voices but other than that the album is perfect. wish more new age music like this was still being made. i miss the days of enigma, enya, clannad, adiemus, etc
new world karma September 14, 2008 Delia I am not a music expert, but I've heard similar music under the New Age or New World category. If it is part of it, I have to say this group has a very spiritual and flowing feeling. Great combination of soft trance with vocalized sounds. I love this CD and Nuages de Monde-incredible type of music I haven't been exposed to yet and I love its mysterious feeling!
