Amazon.com At their essence, Liquid Mind recordings are slo-mo electronic symphonies created for frantic souls who yearn to take a mental float trip across their own private Sea of Tranquility. Credit these restful, unhurried soundscapes to Chuck Wild, once the keyboardist for Missing Persons, the inventive, short-lived 1980s new wave act that also included future instrumental auteurs Patrick O'Hearn (bass) and Terry Bozzio (drums). Relax is a 65-minute compilation of works from six of Wild's previous recordings (plus one unreleased track, "I Am Willing") and, for the uninitiated, stands as an inviting introduction to his languid, affecting sound designs. Wild explains in his liner notes that the Liquid Mind series was spawned when he made the decision to rely on music, not pharmaceuticals, to calm his own work-intensive, overtaxed psyche. Beyond the music's therapeutic subtext, a faint melodic thread weaves through Wild's spacey compositions to provide just enough structure, as demonstrated in the inviting sonic afterglow generated by "Teach Me to Whisper" and "Reflection," that makes his music appealing to more than just the stressed-out or sleep-deprived. Wild is not the first to travel this ethereal path, and some may find his approach a touch one-dimensional for their tastes. But for any urbanite seeking dependable bliss-out music that avoids side trips into mysterious or experimental realms, Relax is a worthwhile starter disc. --Terry Wood

Wonderful and relaxing September 1, 2010 This is a great CD. It's very easy to listen to over and over again, and indeed is quite relaxing. It's helping our newborn sleep at night, which is a fabulous plus!
Liquid Mind's best work August 21, 2010 Blue Rose This is by far my favorite Liquid Mind Experience. The theme of water is evident. As you sink deeper into relaxation, the ebb and flow of waves and swirling currents become apparent. I usually become so relaxed that I fall asleep and wake refreshed. I have checked to see if subliminal messages are used, and from what I have found, the relaxation is not accompanied by this type of message.
actually disappointed... March 31, 2010 batty13 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I can only give this three stars esp after spending the last month listening to Dreamwaves and Music to inspire positive thinking. I found all the tracks to pretty much be the same song with minor changes. I didnt catch it at first from the samples because they were so short.
There's about one maybe two tracks that are good which conveniently are the album only versions. I would suggest getting only those tracks, but alas it seems the artist doesn't want to you. As such, I would suggest not buying any and find another cd. That or just get one and loop it. "/
Aside from every track having the same feel and sound movement, only one of them ever seems to "move" me. Each song really does seem to be the same song slightly changed in key and all have the same pattern of never going anywhere. You have deep synth pads that just go ooooooooohhh and then change to an aaaaaaaaah over like an 8 beat count. Then to layer that up they add a few higher synth pads that kind of oscillate like a woooo wooooo woooo woooo, and that's about it. At times I personally felt the oscillating higher synths became a little annoying at points. I really wished there were some melodic tonalities or some kind of melody even if only slightly phrased to create a harmonic flow of tension and release. It's not something I feel I can sit and actively listen to and that it also fails drastically as an atmospheric background scene in comparison to other artists. When you listen to the samples and hear the first few seconds of the song, the rest of it is 85% exactly the same. That's what I mean when I say they never build or go anywhere. It never builds and the cord choices never create a true movement of harmony (emotional story told by the chords chained together like a sentence)
I find it hard to believe that it's received nothing but 5 stars until now. IF you find yourself wanting to make the purchase and cant decide, I recommend listening to teach me to whisper the first track and you get a sense of what I'm saying in regards to just drones of aaaaaaaahs and ooooohs with light higher pads oscillating. Then imagine that on loop... then change the pitch and the speed and some of the sounds of that song and voila.. your album. This is ofc with the exception of "Awakening"
which is the only track that I like and the one that I feel moves me. It seems the artist probably just got lucky and found an awesome preset sound in his keyboard that he was afraid to use in the other tracks and used it here and marked that song album only to try and get album sales otherwise most people would just buy that one track (hence the album only version lock I would wager). I say he got lucky finding a sweet preset sound because there aren't any other awesome tones on here like that one so it clearly wasn't something he created/dialed.
I kinda feel bad giving it this review but it really does pale in comparison. If you would like to check out my recommendation for a better alternative, I would suggest one of the sonicaid cd's (Dr. Lee Bartel). My next purchase will probably be "Music To Improve Relaxation" as I have the music to inspire positive thinking and I cant stop listening to it as background or foreground music. Listening to the samples none of them sound the ones I have but I can clearly hear the artists style and feel those tracks have melodic movement which I feel is paramount to finding relaxation. To me a melody structure that moves will have tension and then release and music for relaxation should have some amount of tension so that it can then move to and focus on the release thereby creating a sense and emotional state of relaxation.
Close Your Eyes January 17, 2010 Ruby Standing DEER (Colo. Rockies, United States) Lay back in a peaceful setting. Let your mind fly high above the stress as you feel the music enter you body, your Soul. Heal your body and allow it to drift away with the gentle sounds and float on a cloud your mind had created. How does he do it? January 7, 2010 Tim Farmer (Mount Shasta, CA) I have been listening to, loving and using Liquid Mind's music in massage sessions for over 10 years. The music I choose for sessions is always aimed at helping the person on the table access the deepest parts of themselves in as beautiful and powerful a way as possible. I listen to and download a lot of music in this effort and it impresses me that after this many years a single artist continues to create works that continue to rank at the top of my playlist. Even long-time Liquid Mind fans will find "Relax" to be a very worthy addition to their audio lives. This music will guide you in the fine and essential art of deep chill, deep peace, deep relaxation and, if you allow it, inner harmony.
