Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Norway has been considered the breeding ground of Black Metal for years - knowing that, many people tend to forget that the land has hatched a handful of top-class, unmistakable Progressive Metal bands. In the year 2000, this scene brought up Pagan s Mind, who release their fourth studio album in 2007. This progressive masterpiece is called God s Equation , and the Norwegian quintet has put all its experience so far in it. `God s Equation` is a musical giant consisting of groove, melody, intelligent heaviness and ambitious song writing. Skillfully and cleverly, the musical essences of that what constitutes progressive Heavy Metal, are joined here.

With `God s Equation`, Pagan s Mind have created an album which doesn t need to hide behind the big, monumental works of the scene leaders. Without exaggeration, God s Equation is one of the most intense, fundamental and outstanding albums released by Limb Music Products so far. Pagan s Mind - the future of innovative Metal? Without any doubt.

The special Limited Edition version contains a second disc featuring 6 bonus tracks, the Atomic Firelight videoclip and other bonus extras.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic album!!!   August 14, 2008
John G. Strickland (Atlanta, GA)
Once again, Pagan's Mind delivers a solid album. They clearly show how versatile and dominating they can be in lyrics/riffs/drums, etc. They are still a severely under-rated band in my opinion. They definitely give that crisp metal sound where you know precision is a huge factor for them, whereas many other metal lack that component. Despite the album not being one of their bests, it's still way above most other new metal out there! Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars I love this album.   April 20, 2008
Ben Tarpey (Australia)
This is my first taste of Pagan's Mind. It seems that a lot of PM fans on amazon and elsewhere see this is a step down as compared to previous PM albums. If this is really true then their earlier albums must have reached divine musical perfection because I see this as a truely great album from beginning to end. As a fan of progressive and power metal I love both the really heavy side of metal and the really melodic side and this album satisfies both criteria.

I can't really consider PM to be a power metal band, they have the melodies that would usually be a characteristic of power metal and also the vocals, but they lack the speed and the overly cheesy feel of that music. Anyway, God's Equation is a very solid album from beginning to end. The band go through a bunch of songs that range from being all out aggressive groovy metal songs, to airy catchy and almost poppy hard rock songs. After a short instrumental overture, the title track opens as one of the heaviest, catchiest and all round best songs on the album. The melodies in the chorus of the title track are just breath taking, and the guitar solo is amazing. United Alliance and Spirit Starcruiser are two very commercial sounding numbers with a massive focus on the melodic choruses and just good old power, just listen to the guitar work in the closing minute of Spirit Starcruiser, its amazing. If you want heavy tunes just listen to Atomic Firelight with its frantic staccatto opening or Alien Kamikaze with is fist pumping breakdown and massive guitar solo. If you want a more progressive side just listen to Painted Skies with its retarded instrumental mid-section or the big finale of Osiris's Triumphant Return. The cover of Bowies 'Hallo Spaceboy' is simply epic and it fits right in with the rest of the songs, Nils does a great Bowie impersonation only he really makes this song shine.

Nils vocals on this album are really great, he proves himself to be an excellent vocalist with a wide range. The guitarist may be playing metal but he has the soul of a rockstar, he avoids random shredding and really goes for writing some amazing solo's, the keyboards provide a constant airy futuristic atmosphere with the music, you can't hear the bass very well in the mix but the drummer is a real powerhouse. I can't really recomend this album to fans of Dream Theater and Symphony X because I don't hear all that much of a similarity, however fans of progressive metal and rock in general should eat this album up without a problem. 4 1/2 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Pagans Mind is at the top of their game   April 18, 2008
S. Killmer (Denver, CO USA)
I want to post a mix of the previous reviews, as I can see where the "less than 5-stars" people are coming from. I too was slightly disappointed after the first 2 or 3 listens of this CD. But then something amazing happened, just like it does with every other Pagans Mind CD that I have bought. On about the 4th listen, you finally "get-it" or some kind of "mental block" gets removed, and you find it nearly impossible to remove the CD from the player! Talk about becoming addicted.

I think the mental block came from the lyrics on the first couple of CDs. With this CD, my expectations were so high that I couldn't really enjoy it at first. I won't go into the details of each song, but it follows the usual PM pattern...start out strong with about 3 songs that kick you right in the teeth, then mellow out and "progress" a little in the middle, with a perfect mix of heavy and soft, then finish the album very strong with a couple of unforgettable tracks. This pattern is what makes listening to PM so addictive.

As others have pointed out, the vocals and guitar playing are absolutely stellar, and the drumming is top-notch also. And it is all blended together to create a unique and driving sound that you just can't get enough of. And another thing...If you are feeling bummed out or a little down, the music's positive and upbeat tempo will have you back rockin in no time.

I am a huge prog-rock fan, and these guys are firmly at the top of my favorite bands list. And that list has some pretty impressive names on it. Do yourself a favor, and buy this CD. It is about $1,000 worth of music for a mere $15. Believe me, you will be blown away by these guys, as I and many others have been.

5 out of 5 stars A little different...but really great after a few listens   February 19, 2008
geetarfreak (Utah)
I absolutely love this band. I took a chance on them after hearing Osiris Eyes and was blown away. Each of their first three albums are pretty similar, but all uniquely cool. "God's Equation" took a few more listens to appreciate. The music is typical polished PM, and Nils Rue's vocals are really cool. It seems like he did a little more experimenting with his vocals tones and vibratos on this one. The songs do become quite catchy. My favorites are "God's Equation", "United Alliance", and believe it or not, "Halo Spaceboy". I really like Rue's singing on that one. Give this album a chance and do not judge based on previous offerings. Progressive artists experiment and change, yet still maintain a core identity, so this album should not be a suprise. Enjoy it for what it is...that's what I did.

2 out of 5 stars Pagan's Mind : "God's Equation"   February 14, 2008

I guess after creating back to back masterpieces, a letdown release was bound to happen. Well, here it is. "God's Equation" doesn't sound nearly as tight, the songs aren't as catchy, and the overall feel of this release is very hurried in my opinion. Needless to say, "God's Equation" was a major disappointment...
