3 out of 5 stars The beat is still vital, but the melody is fading   November 18, 2008
OneLove (so fla)
The downward spiral indeed. Reznor continues his artistic liberations via no record contracts, although it is becoming more and more clear that, unlike Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails used that platform to capitalize on it's popularity and fan base by releasing sometimes less restrained, but almost always less detailed songs. The Slip works well enough to provide ample counterpoint to his last snooze-fest of industrial ambiance, Ghosts I-IV, with a way more uptempo, rocking vibe, but still continues down a path of sagging mediocrity. Reznor will always be a perceptive producer and offer intriguing soundscapes- even at his most generic or derivative, but it feels like the overall compositional quality has declined.

1 out of 5 stars My Respect For NIN Is What's "Slipping"   November 14, 2008

It's mind-boggling to believe the same person who produced this also produced genius albums like The Fragile or Downward Spiral. I like to think that I'm pretty generous with my star ratings but this is in all senses of the word 'ghastly'. Basically whoever gave this 5 stars is saying that it is on par with NIN's best stuff or to the layperson whoever gave this 4 stars is like saying it is only one star beneath the DOWNWARD SPIRAL! -Give me a break. There wasn't any part of this album that was impressing or memorable. You'll notice that there aren't too many reviews who mention anything SPECIFIC that they liked about it... because there wasn't anything! To me Reznor's reputation is near ruin because it's not good when a friend tells you, "hey nine inch nails has another new album out!" and then you reply, "yeah but who gives a ****".

5 out of 5 stars Excellente Work Mr. Reznor!   November 11, 2008

Excellent Work!

This is a very mature work from Trent Reznor getting back to his essential power looking back to the pretty hate machine but now with the progress of technology its better and more sophisticated you can tell, that Mr. Reznor hasn't lost his touch and the way of making new music that will influence another bands and will sound so good live, I can tell by my self that this album sounds great live and I truly recommend it at all.

Thank you Mr. Reznor and NINE INCH NAILS!

4 out of 5 stars It comes with a DVD   November 3, 2008

I must not have noticed but this CD also includes a DVD with six music videos. I wasn't blown away by this CD like many other reviewers were. Trent is trying new things but I can't seem to get into this one. If you're a NIN fan, then buy this but don't expect anything close to Closer or Slipping Away.

Don't buy this from hmv.com, I pre-ordered it two months before release and received an email 4 months later saying that they didn't have it. I then went to amazon and I got it quickly to my door!
