Product Description The HK 3490 was born to make beautiful music and, like all specialists, it's very good at what it does. It features high-current, ultrawide-bandwidth amplification, a signature Harman Kardon technology that delivers all the subtlety of an original musical performance, whether reproduced from vinyl or your MP3 player of choice. But even specialists enjoy a change of pace from time to time. So the HK 3490 also features four high-quality composite video inputs, and convenient front-panel inputs for video games and portable audio players. At 120 watts per channel, this powerful HK 3490 stereo receiver combines all of an audiophile's must-haves (high performance phono preamp, preouts/main-in jacks, high-current amplification) with an array of multichannel extras (digital-audio inputs, video switching, dual subwoofer outputs and Dolby Virtual Speaker technology). Add the optional Bridge II docking station, and the HK 3490 will connect as elegantly to your newfangled iPod as it does to your time-honored turntable. The HK 3490 isn't a snob about where the music comes from, as long as it sounds great when it reaches its final destination: your ears. Connects to the optional Harman Kardon-engineered The Bridge II docking station for iPod playback, control and charging Stereo preamp outputs allow the use of an external power amplifier Two digital audio inputs (one coaxial and one digital) Convenient front-panel audio/video input for use with video games or portable players One high-quality phono input for connection of record players with an MM cartridge Two analog recording outputs (tape and video) FM stereo/FM/AM tuner with RDS, auto preset, direct-access tuning and 30 presets Two-line dot-matrix display for clear visibility Dimmer reduces the brightness of the information screen, or switches it off completely

Powerhouse July 15, 2010 Lyle P. Parkins Consignment (Parkersburg, WV, US) A real powerhouse - and beautiful. Only downside I've found is the range of the bass boost / ( loudness ) is very limited. Most all control is via remote.
Old-school fidelity July 11, 2010 Deadpool They don't typically make receivers like they used to. Most of the home theater-type receivers just don't cut it when it comes to high quality sound. The low THD (0.07% @ 8 ohms) on this amp is a hard thing to find nowadays; especially for this price. My CDs and ipod sound great with this amp, and my vinyl sounds even better. If you want a great amp for listening to music, this will not disappoint. Even at high volume levels, this amp doesn't noticebaly distort like my last one, which was a home theater-type amp, did. If you have other quality components, this amp will only improve their perceived performance. Great response along the whole sound spectrum of bass, mids, and highs. The amp is easy to use, and looks great too. If you're thinking about getting this amp, you should probably go ahead and grab it. You'll like it. If you have an ipod, you should get the bridge II to go with this. It only took me a few minutes to figure out how to use all of the functions on this amp. There simply aren't too many out there like this one, anymore. I do not use it for watching movies, so I can only talk about how it does with music, and it does music very, very well.
Fit My Needs July 10, 2010 H. TORRES (TEXAS) Decided to go with Old School receiver,no thrills, just a strong powerful receiver.Hookup my Onkyo Turntable,Sony 200 CD's player,CATV,AR wireless headphones,And ran a Analog RCA cable to my Computer to the Video 3 connection.Had to run a Ground Isolator on my TV cause it Hum through my receiver. No big deal. But every unit sound great. No surround sound,But TV sound okay on this receiver.Subwoofer sound good, add to TV sound make it better. But so far very happy with this unit.Use to have a JVC Receiver that had more features, could change sounds effects. But this is a good trade off.The HK remote suck it to big and heavy.Work fine, just can't control any of my units. The CATV Remote doesn't work on the HK3940,need to use both remote that suck. But that my only big Issue with this receiver. But it sound great even the TV sound good.So far I'm okay with it.I give it 4 stars.
Very Solid Receiver June 22, 2010 D. Hargett (Ann Arbor, MI USA) Nice receiver. Easy to hook up, and optical audio in was a big plus for me. I now enjoy streaming my iTunes wirelessly to this and using the multi-zone to listen to the music inside or outside or both at same time.
