Amazon.com essential recording An album even the technophobic couldn't ignore, The Fat of the Land made Prodigy one of the first U.K. rave acts to infiltrate pop culture. Hard-core hip-hop-derived breakbeats, layers of unabashed (but creative) sampling, and meaningless shouted lyrics struck a chord beyond the electronic-music community. The inclusion of "Firestarter" and "Breathe" (both previously released hit singles) certainly aided the disc's widespread success, but it was the ferocity (and controversy) of "Smack My Bitch Up" that caught the world's attention. Guest Shahin Bada's Indian vocalizations convey the sense that dance music has come a long way from "Pump Up the Volume"! "Diesel Power," featuring Kool Keith, and "Funky Shit" set a wicked groove; the cover of L7's "Fuel My Fire" recalls the energy of the Sex Pistols. In fact, the dark aggression of The Fat of the Land bears closer resemblance to both rap and punk than the hedonism of techno. Leader Liam Howett simply gives up 10 solid songs with bombastic production values, transforming dance music into the art of noise. --Lisa Ladouceur

pure fire December 7, 2009 CALI HIP HOPPER (THA BAY) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
oh my goodness...this album blew my mind. first off the production was spectacular.....the beats bang soo hard i had to turn it down or i would blow my speakers out. each song was better than the one before it. i remember thinking to myself this next song has to be garbage...but then it would start and my jaw would drop.....this album was a pure masterpiece. nothing more to say.
What can you expect from The Prodigy? June 22, 2009 Hunz (Indaial, Brazil) Good songs! In my opinion, this album and "Invaders must die" are the best from The Prodigy so far.
If you like The Prodigy, this is a must in your collection!
One of the best electronic albums May 31, 2009 Justin Selsor (usa) This along with Crystal Method's Vegas are the 2 electronic albums I use as reference.
Far of the Land, Good CD! May 5, 2009 S. John Sponsler (Cape Canaveral, FL USA) This is a good CD. Some of the songs are somewhat repetitious, but each has its own little complexities when listened to carefully. Volume needs to be turned up a little to hear all the idiosyncrosies. I good buy!
Great CD from beginning to End~! March 17, 2009 Nero da Tres Six (Everywhere, Earth) This album is freakin great! I'm not a huge fan of Techno music because most of it is club/rave music. But this CD is somethin else... I've listened to it TONS of times. If you haven't then check it out!
