Product Description This is the seventh awakening of Juno Reactor, which has transformed its sound through film music. From The Matrix films ("Reloaded" and "Revolutions"), to his work in the Japanese films "Brave Story" and "Dimension Bomb", composer Ben Watkins' fascination with Japanese animation makes its way to this release. The evolution of Juno Reactor defines the moment; it changes day by day as Watkins surrounds himself with the best musicians that realize a vision consumed by multiple worlds and diverse cultures. Into the mind portals we travel, eternally dancing to the Reactor's hum in a world consumed by "Gods & Monsters".

Juno Reactor's experiment gone wrong! October 21, 2008 Janelle Manno (Chicago, IL) I'm all for musicians surprising me with new approaches in their work, but I have to admit that sometimes these "experiments" work for me, and sometimes they don't. This is one case where the experiment didn't work for me.
I'm a long-time fan of Juno Reactor's music, and except for the single "Pistolero", I had never met a Juno Reactor single I didn't like. Until now. In short, I can only recommend four of the nine tracks included in this album: #3, 5, 6, and 7. The rest I can't even listen to more than once, and if you are a fan, beware. You will be better off buying only those four in MP3 file format, since on top of that the album itself in CD format is over-priced, in my opinion.
It was bound to happen eventually October 15, 2008 El Spectro First off, Ben Watkins is, like, 50 now. Most artists his age are starting to mellow out as well. However, I still wonder if Robert Del Naja (of Massive Attack fame) is an uncredited producer or something, because this certainly doesn't sound much like Juno at all. When I first saw this album was available, I pulled the trigger immediately on buying it without listening to any previews. Big mistake. Like a previous reviewer said, I'm going to listen before I buy anymore new Juno Reactor (and I'm sure there will be some, as Ben doesn't show any signs of slowing down). Now, on to the tracks...
01 Inca Steppa - I first heard this and thought "Hmm...maybe it'll (referring to the album) be like this the whole time". Nope. This was my favorite track on the album, and even it goes on for about a minute too long. Cool synth effects, vocals, and guitars, but like I said, a bit too long. 8/10.
02 Tokyo Dub - When you see the word "Dub" on an album by a group known for fast-paced music, it's probably going to be a loooooooooooooong day. This is slow, plodding, and uninteresting. 3/10
03 Las Vegas Future Past - Most people said this was one of the better tracks on the album, and it is, but it's still not happening for me. It's one of the better tracks because the album is so droll. Definitely has a casino vibe to it. 5/10
04 Mind of the Free - Yawn. Another slow one. This one's even worse than Tokyo Dub. 2/10
05 Immaculate Crucifixion - Trying to make listeners remember God Is God, I presume. I don't like either one. 4/10
06 City of the Sinful - While better than the other "slow" tracks on here, it's still got that Massive Attack feel to it. 4/10
07 Tanta Pena - Wow. For a moment there I remembered this was a Juno album. Definitely sounds like something found on Labyrinth. Gets a bit repetitive though, even for its length. 7/10
08 The Perfect Crime (Superman) - While I like Ben's vocals, he could have picked a better time to debut them. Ouch. 2/10
09 Pretty Girl - Yawn. I think I fell asleep during this one. 1/10
Awful. Dreadful. Repetitive. Boring. How can this be? July 22, 2008 Plaid Ninja (NY) I never thought I would write this kinf of review for a Juno Reactor release, but this album is truly, TRULY terrible. Were this released with a different band name I might have given a higher review. I felt about the same way about this CD as I did with Future Sound of London's 'The Isness' - I wondered WTF I was listening to. I kept thinking this can't be Juno Reactor. There are lyrics... and they're really bad and really repetitive. There's nothing but the same loop over and over in every song. And they're boring loops. This was until the last 2 songs which are way too awful for me to listen to ever again, especially the country & western bit at the end.
Ever since I heard Juno Reactor for the first time I was anxious for their new releases. I rushed off to get Bible of Dreams as soon as it was released, and then every other JR work since, as soon as I could get my hands on the CDs. Most of the time the efforts paid off. Not this time. I kinda wish I could get my money back.
There is one other thing that bothers me a little bit. Two of the tracks were taken from a Matrix video game, and it seemed like there was no real work put into making them stand alone songs, unlike Labyrinth's remix of Mona Lisa Overdrive.
Overall, this was one of the biggest musical disappointments I've had. Prodigy's last CD was painful, but this truly was a shot to the gut. I hope JR gets back to what it does best. Experimentation is good sometimes, but this was uncalled for.
Nice cover, though.
What the heck is this???? July 3, 2008 ruben megido sanchez 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
What happened here? Where's Juno Reactor?
I hate when musicians "evolve" and change their sound to a totally different one. Except "Tanta Pena" the rest of the album has nearly nothing to do with the classic Juno Reactor sound.
No excitement, no energy. It isnt a bad album but the tracks sound more like Massive Attack or Crystal Method. the last two tracks are...just...terrible.
I hope they rectify in their next release and give us what we are expecting to hear. If Ben Watkins wants to play Nick Cave, please let him release a solo album but dont ever let him sing again in a Juno Album. PLEASE.
Trading in the Tribal influence for Jazz? June 20, 2008 J. Frioux (Oklahoma) I was so happy to see a new Juno Reactor album, they were the first 'techno' artist I ever got into, and are easily in the top three. But this was not at all like Juno Reactor. There are usually techno songs with some various tribal influenced songs thrown in. The tribes have been shut down for some inner city jazz. I am not sure what Ben Watkins was thinking, but I guess I applaud the fact he is trying something new, and it's not that the songs are bad, they were mostly really good, but it's not like the Juno Reactor I am used to. There are a few tracks that resemble the Juno Reactor of past (thank god!), I was getting really desperate after the first 3 tracks. Over all I am pleased with it for what it is, but very disappointed it was not like traditional Juno Reactor. I give it a 4 because it is good for an entirely new direction.
