Album Description Euro Groove is a collection of cool, contemporary grooves from the European continent's leading musicians, producers and DJs. Some of the artists on Euro Groove will be familiar to international audiences. England's Chumbawamba rose to unlikely stardom in 1997 with their single "Tubthumping," but have gone on to play music ranging from pop-influenced dance and world music to acoustic folk. The band is generally influenced by anarchist political stances and irreverent attitude to authority, as evident on "Jacob's Ladder (Not in My Name)," initially released as a limited edition anti-war single in 2003. Germany's !DelaDap and 2raumwohnung are welcomed back to the Groove series as they make their second appearances on a Putumayo release. !DelaDap, which means "to dance" or simply "to groove" in the Roma language of their heritage, contributes the gypsy-esque "Le Shin," while 2raumwohnung, whose name translates to "2 Room Apartment," contributes the driving groove "Maedchen Mit Plan." France's love of R&B is displayed with the inclusion of Martial's "Cette Fille" and Mouss et Hakim's "Mina". Toufic Farroukh, a Lebanese musician and long-time French resident, is a leader in French and world music fusion as evidenced on "Destins et Desirs." Other featured artists include Germany's Jazzamor, Spain's Guateque All Stars featuring Shiva, and Italy's Mystic Diversions and Fiamma Fumana, who appropriately "Check In" to round out this collection.

The Continental Funplex April 17, 2008 Amaranth (Northern California) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Putumayo's "Euro Groove" is a refreshing, accessible introduction to Continental club hits. It's perfect background music for a glass of wine, coq au vin, and a night with one's honey. The songs are enchanting, a sonic journey through European's cosmopolitan diversity.
The opening track, Toufic Farroukh feat. Jeanne Added, "Destins et Desirs" blends French chanson with Arabic grooves. It's like being in a hip Algerian night club in Paris. Jazzamor's "Nuit Magique" is true to its title;it's German smooth jazz (and yes,it does exist) Fiamma Fumana's "Check in" pokes fun at their constant life of touring. !DelaDap's "Le Shin" is groovy Nu-Roma (gypsy) music. Unfortunately, !DelaDap doesn't have the fame&exposure of Balkan Beat Box, Taraf de Haidouks, and Gogol Bordello. Martial's "Cette Fille" is glorious Celtic/French rap. It gives a beat to Celtic music... and it's not Michael Flatley! "Superwhirly" and "Madchen Mit Plan" are fit for the dancefloor. "Jacob's Ladder" is a powerful anti-war ballad that grooves with a Celtic beat. Mystic Diversions' "E Pa Pa" is sensuous and mystical. The closing song, Mouss et Hakim's "Mina",is a powerful Arabic/French groove about women and religious fundamentalist oppression. These songs have messages (most are love songs),without being dreadfully heavy-handed.
"Euro Groove" shows off the latest cool grooves on the Continent, and artists worth exploring. Pour a glass of Italian Barbera, make some Spanish tapas and French crepes, and give "Euro Groove" a spin!
